Masato Abe is an economic affairs officer in the Investment and Enterprise Development Section of the Trade, Investment and Innovation Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). He has extensive experience in enterprise development, with a special emphasis on small and medium-sized enterprises and supply chain management. Corruption has long been a prominent problem in the Asia-Pacific, but many countries have seemingly lacked the will to combat it. Until measures are enacted to increase transparency and accountability in governance, corruption will continue to gnaw away at economic gains.
