Miu Chung Yan is a full professor and chair of the PhD program in the School of Social Work at The University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada. He joined the School in 2004. Prior to UBC, he studied, practiced and taught social work in Hong Kong, London, Toronto and San Francisco. He has conducted extensive research on the settlement and integration processes and needs of and policies and services for immigrants and refugees to Canada. As a native of Hong Kong, Dr Yan has experienced and observed the development of the Hong Kong immigrant community in Canada. He has also worked on studies of youth from immigrant families returning to Hong Kong, the post-return migration of Hong Kong Canadians, and the dynamics of Chinese immigrant communities in Vancouver.
